Poetry Essay Samples - Poetic Lift Off by DonovanThe Poetic Lift Off by Donovan is a collection of short stories featuring special relationships between long-time lovers. They share secrets, friendship, and hope through the course of each story. I was unable to take much interest in the first few stories; however, once the characters' story reached its conclusion I began to notice all the details that make this collection so intriguing.Romance has always been part of my life. My parents' and grandparents' generations had long-lasting love affairs, or marriages, that lasted for a lifetime. Love stories are a part of my adult life as well. Their importance of these books make me realize that even adults can benefit from reading these stories and enjoying their read-aloud style.The Poetic Lift Off by Donovan is actually a collection of seven short stories. In a review, the author writes, 'The tales are no less beautiful, profound, challenging, or uplifting than the sum of their parts, b ut in different ways. Each of them may be read as a standalone story or seen as part of a pattern of connected scenes.' This may be a little bit hard to believe, as each story seems to only share a few small things, but one look at the combination of these seven short stories would prove me wrong.From the first paragraph to last, each story shares its narrative voice with each other. Whether I am reading a woman talking about her love affair with a man or a father talking about his son, the similarities will never end. And this is just the beginning.Through the stories' sharing of their emotions, one can now gain a better understanding of their love, and the kind of relationship they share. For example, I found the story of Tina talking about her troubled relationship with her sister, was more emotional and graphic compared to others in the collection. I also enjoyed the one about a mother's affection for her daughter. These and others were very well written, and I found myself grow ing emotionally attached to them.There are also common themes between the stories. They all have flawed characters, who struggle to find happiness in their lives. It is these stories' hopes and fears that keep the reader glued to the pages of their favorite book.Poetry has always been my passion. I love poetry for the beauty it contains, but more importantly, for the lessons it can teach us. And if the writer truly loves and understands this love, then he or she has a special talent to express their message with such beauty.If you're someone who has not yet read these poems, I highly recommend you read the poems as they are presented in the poem samples.
